Dear
Parents/ Guardians,
In 10 grade
Heath class, we are currently covering the mental health unit. As a supplement to this unit, we are
utilizing a youth curriculum for the awareness and prevention of youth suicide
from The Jason Foundation called “A Promise for Tomorrow.” Mr. Gruchow, our health teacher, and Mrs.
Saxton, our school social worker, are teaching the unit together.
As part of the curriculum, we will be showing
a DVD regarding this subject. The DVD involves
two adolescents and a suicide. As this
is a very sensitive subject, we want you to be aware that your adolescent will
be viewing this DVD. We encourage you to
discuss the video with your adolescent and contact us if you have any questions
or concerns. You will also find
additional information regarding this curriculum on the website www.jasonfoundation.com.
Sincerely,
Brandon
Gruchow
Dawn Saxton
Nels Onstad
Friday: This lesson will review the video, "Choices,"and students will discuss what to do if approached or aware of a friend who is contemplating suicide.
